aoe2rms.com (“we”, “us”) is a free, fan-made set of tools for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition — the Map Scripter, the Map Painter and the community pages for sharing maps. This page explains what data they handle. We keep it minimal. The Architect and Fashion Designer tools have their own privacy pages. Age of Empires is a trademark of Microsoft; this site is not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft or Xbox Game Studios.
What we collect
- The Map Scripter and the Map Painter need no account. Your map is built in your browser and the
.rmsis created on your device — it is never uploaded. A share link carries your map's settings or drawing inside the link itself. We collect anonymous usage analytics via Google Analytics (e.g. that a map was generated, downloaded or shared, which base map, the site language, or that a social link was clicked), to see what's popular. It isn't tied to your name. - Signing in is only needed to post feedback, vote, rate or share a map. With Google, we receive your Google display name, email address and a user ID via Firebase Authentication. As a guest, Firebase creates an anonymous user ID with no personal details. In your profile you can add a display name and an in-game player tag; these are shown on what you post.
- Content you submit — feedback posts and replies, votes, star ratings, and maps you share to the community — is stored in our database (Google Firebase / Firestore). Shared maps and feedback are public: anyone can see them with your display name. We also store notifications about activity on your posts, and, if needed to stop abuse, a moderation record tied to your user ID.
- Votes (likes and dislikes on shared maps and feedback posts) are saved with your account — your display name, player tag and the time — so each account counts once. Only you and the site's moderator can see how you voted; everyone else sees only the totals. Removing your vote deletes its record.
- Stored only on your device (your browser's local storage, never sent to us): your saved scripter setups, your Map Painter drawing, your language and cookie choices, whether you've seen the site tour, and which posts and maps you've voted on or rated.
Cookies & advertising
We use Google Analytics to measure usage. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to measure traffic across your visits to this site.
We also use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites.

- We ask for your consent before non-essential (analytics & advertising) cookies are set — a banner on your first visit lets you Accept or Reject, and your choice is remembered on your device. Until you accept, Google Consent Mode keeps these cookies off.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase — Hosting, Authentication, and the Firestore database that stores accounts and feedback.
- Google Analytics (GA4) — anonymous usage statistics: page views and feature events (generating, downloading, sharing, voting), used to improve the tool.
- Google AdSense — advertising.
- Buy Me a Coffee and Revolut — optional donation links; if you use them, their own privacy policies apply.
- Google Fonts — the site's typefaces load from Google's servers, which receive your IP address.
- geojs.io — only if your browser's language isn't one we support and you haven't picked one, your IP address is sent once to geojs.io to look up your country and choose a language. No cookie is set.
- YouTube, Twitch, TikTok and Instagram — links to Paxihs' channels. Nothing is loaded from them until you click; after that, their own privacy policies apply.
How we use your data
Only to run the feedback board, ratings, notifications and map sharing, show your name on your own posts, prevent spam and abuse, and improve the site. We do not sell your data.
Data retention & your rights
You can delete maps you've shared yourself, and you can ask us to view or delete any data tied to your account at any time — just contact us. Depending on your location you may have rights under the GDPR or similar laws.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 (16 in the EEA) and we do not knowingly collect their data.

We may update this policy; the “last updated” date above reflects the latest version.
